Creative Living Diaries is a Substack of personal essays at the intersection of creativity, spirituality, and everyday life. Through reflections on art, imagination, memory and intuition, I explore what it means to live authentically in a world that often asks us to do the opposite.

Rooted in a love of story, mystery, and the human spirit, Creative Living Diaries invites readers to slow down, notice what matters, and connect with the unseen threads that give life meaning.

A used record store opened up in my neighborhood, and even though I felt uncomfortable shopping alone in such a small place, the music was important, so I went and began to sift through the bins of albums. Each one was like a portal into a different time, a different way of seeing the world, and myself.

The Things I Said and Didn’t Say

I took detailed mental notes of where I was, this environment, this group. Certainly not all, but most of the people I met were traditional in their outlook. They dressed conventionally and had conventional desires. My hypervigilance began to reshape me into someone who could be accepted here, someone who could survive.

Puffed Hearts

Mostly, they were taken in the 90s when I was in my 20s. I frequently think and write about that decade of my life. It is not out of nostalgic longing. It is more like flattening a paper map on the table and retracing my steps. It is there, in 90s New York, where so much of my inspiration lives. It is there that I left little sparkling crumbs of my essential self so that my current self could return to retrieve them.

Let’s Connect

Writing is about connection—between self and story, between intuition and the page, beetween the heart and the universe, between writer and reader.
